The Campus Social Worker is a Registered Social Worker who can provide support with mental health, problem-solving, non-academic concerns, and navigating other resources.

The Campus Social Worker can support students who are experiencing non-academic concerns impacting their wellness and ability to engage in their studies. Students can book appointments for a nonjudgmental, holistic space to discuss concerns and find solutions. Staff and faculty members can also meet with the Campus Social Work to discuss student support situations and identify appropriate referrals.

There are many topics which can be discussed with the Campus Social Worker. Below are some examples – if you don’t see your concern here, the Campus Social Worker can help you figure out where to go.

  • Support for students experiencing mental health concerns and complex personal/life situations
  • Support accessing community organizations and/or private practice counselling, including free or low-cost counselling
  • Increase healthy coping skills and distress tolerance
  • Referrals to academic supports
  • Address food, housing, and other resource insecurity
  • Improve self-advocacy skills for accessing health care, mental health services, or academic services
  • Learn how to access Dalhousie Health and Wellness and the Dalhousie Accessibility Centre
