Residence Staff

Each Residence Bay and Floor has a live-in Don who is responsible for community development and supporting approximately 25 students who live in their floor or bay. Dons organize social and educational Residence events and receive specialized training to provide support, mentorship and initial crisis response for students.

The University also employs a group of upper-year students known as Patrol, who conduct rounds of the residence after-hours. They encourage students to uphold community standards and promote a safe and supportive environment. Professional campus security also monitor campus 24/7.

The Assistant Dean of Residence Life oversees residence life, including supervision of the Don team, programming and supports for students living at King’s and is available to residence students for help and support. The Assistant Dean of Residence Life provides general guidance and mentorship to the students living in residence, and can refer students to a wide variety of professional campus supports, such as academic advising or health and counselling services. The Assistant Dean has an office located in Alex Hall.

The Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services oversees housing operations, including the staff that manage the residence application process and room assignments. The Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services oversees Patrol, the Alex Hall Front Desk and the service providers to Residence, such as dining services and custodial services. The Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services manages two fulltime staff who coordinate the systems and operations of residence and more.

The Residence and Conference Services Coordinator, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services, manages the logistical systems of residence and event spaces across campus. This role includes coordinating room bookings, supporting event planning, and overseeing residence applications, assignments and movements. The Coordinator also serves as a key resource for students, providing assistance with residence-related services and ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience.

The Housing and Ancillary Services Operations Coordinator, reporting to the Assistant Dean of Housing & Ancillary Services, manages the day-to-day operations of residence spaces. This role includes coordinating with campus partners such as Facilities Management, Security, and custodial teams to ensure that all residence facilities run smoothly. The Coordinator works closely with the Assistant Dean to maintain an efficient and supportive living environment for all students.

One of these positions or the Dean of Students is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the academic year.
