Director of Equity and Community Supports

The Director of Equity and Community Supports helps translate King’s commitments to equity, inclusion, and Indigenization into coordinated action across the university. This role provides leadership that connects people, policy, and practice to ensure that equity is not only articulated in strategy, but experienced in classrooms, services, and campus culture. As a member of the Senior Administrative Team, the Director strengthens alignment and institutional capacity towards a thriving environment for all students.

The Director is leading the development of King’s institution-wide EDIA+ strategy, and thereafter will lead its implementation. The Director also strengthens institutional systems by reviewing and updating key policies, and overseeing the complaint processes in partnership with respective staff, faculty and student leadership.

The Director leads the Equity & Community Supports Department and supervises a dedicated team consisting of the Accessibility Officer, Sexual Health & Safety Officer, Indigenous Support and Outreach Coordinator, and Student Support Advisor. This department exists to provide confidential support to primarily to students on issues related to discrimination, harassment, equity & accessibility. Additionally, they support students and the campus community through the following:

  • Navigating and connecting with on and off-campus resources.
  • Facilitating education and training opportunities.
  • Implementing respective policies concerning accessibility, equity and student well-being.
  • Address grievances and complaints related to equity, accessibility and student well-being.
  • Providing advisory/consulting services to the campus community on matters related to the department.
  • Leading a student team of peer educators, peer support workers and student ambassadors who engage students through tabling, creating resources, hosting student events, collecting feedback, providing peer support and hosting small groups/safe spaces.

Through a relational, community-centered and strategic approach, the Director ensures equity, dignity, and belonging remain embedded in King’s strategic direction and everyday experience.
